American Midwest Konkani Association

The American Midwestern Konkani Association (AMKA) is a vibrant community dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich heritage of the Konkani people in the Midwest. Our mission is to bring together families and individuals through cultural events, educational programs, and community service that honor our traditions while creating space for new memories. From Diwali gatherings and festive performances to language workshops and youth activities, AMKA offers something for every generation to connect, share, and grow together.

We believe in keeping our roots and culture alive while embracing the diversity of the world around us, creating a home away from home for Konkani families. By nurturing friendships, celebrating our arts and culture, and passing down values of togetherness, AMKA enriches not only our community but also the broader cultural fabric of the Midwest. Whether you are new to the area or have been here for years, AMKA is a place where you’ll always find belonging, pride, and joy in being Konkani.

OUR HISTORY

Established in 1985, AMKA is a cultural organization dedicated to bringing together Konkani-speaking families in the Chicagoland area through vibrant cultural and social events. Our motto, “Ammi melnu khelnu aska”“Let’s remain friends, always” — reflects the spirit of unity and lifelong friendship that defines our community.

Each year, a new committee takes the lead in organizing events and upholding our cherished traditions. From celebrating festivals such as Ugadi and Diwali, to hosting our annual picnic and sports day, AMKA creates opportunities for connection, celebration, and cultural pride.

In addition to cultural gatherings, our community is committed to service. We organize an annual charity event as a way to give back and support the society we live in.

Through these efforts, AMKA fosters meaningful bonds among members, while also helping the younger generation stay connected to their Konkani roots.
